Deaf Arsonist Set Fire To Deaf Family's Home

VIDEO: Caught on camera: The shocking moment a drug-fuelled arsonist poured a gallon of petrol on to the house of a Deaf family sleeping inside before setting it on fire.

LONDON - A drug-fuelled arsonist has been sentenced to jail after he was caught red-handed on camera trying to set the home of a Deaf family on fire while they were sleeping inside.

Michael Douglas was paid £1,600 to target the victims by pouring petrol onto their house and then setting it alight in the early hours of the early morning.

The family's CCTV cameras caught Douglas, who is profoundly Deaf himself, and an unknown accomplice running up to the house in Bradford, West Yorkshire, emptying a gallon of fuel and setting it alight before making their escape.

Bradford Crown Court heard that the arsonist was drunk and high on cocaine and cannabis when he carried out the attack at 5am on May 26.

He has been jailed for five years and three months after pleading guilty to arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered as well as a variety of motoring offences.

Douglas told police he had been paid £1,600 to 'light the house' but had refused to kidnap the mother who lived there because the whole family was Deaf, the Telegraph & Argus reported.

After the 26-year-old father of four and his accomplice fled the scene, a neighbour called 999 and the victims were unharmed, although the ground floor of their house, their garage and the wheelie bins were damaged... Read more: HERE

Deaf Indian Woman Returns Home After 12-Years

VIDEO: Deaf Indian woman Geeta 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' to return home nearly after being stranded in Pakistan for 12 years.

NEW DELHI - Several families had come forward to claim the Deaf and mute Indian girl is their daughter. The Punjab Rangers brought her to the Edhi Foundation nearly 14 years ago, said Faisal Edhi of the social welfare group.

She was barely 11 years old when she accidentally crossed the border and landed in Pakistan. Now in her early 20s, Geeta - who is Deaf and mute - is set to return to her homeland as her family has been traced in India.

The Centre said on Thursday that Geeta will be reunited with her family.

“Geeta will be back in India soon. We have located her family. She will be handed over to the family only after the DNA test,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said.

Geeta was being looked after by Edhi Foundation, a charitable organisation, in Karachi. The 23-year-old has identified her family through a photograph and they reportedly live in Bihar. Pakistani authorities said they have completed all formalities to repatriate Geeta to India.

“We have completed all formalities on our part for repatriation of Geeta. The Indian side has already been informed accordingly. We, therefore, are waiting for response from the Indian High Commission regarding the mode of her return,” Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah said.

Geeta’s case came to light after Bollywood star Salman Khan’s film Bajrangi Bhaijaan was released earlier this year. ... Read More: HERE

Deaf Male Model - Introducing Nyle DiMarco

VIDEO [ASL/CC] - America's Next Top Model's first ever Deaf contestant on why he refuses to let his disability hold him back.

LOS ANGELES - A model who is set to become the first ever Deaf person to compete in hit reality series America's Next Top Model has revealed why he refuses to let his disability stop him from reaching the top of the fashion industry.

Nyle DiMarco, 25, is set to feature on the upcoming 22nd season of the hit CW series, which was created by supermodel Tyra Banks. But while some might believe he is at a disadvantage when compared with his co-stars, the Washington-based model insists that his disability actually makes him all the more unique.

'I strongly believe that being Deaf gives me a huge advantage because of my native language, American Sign Language (ASL),' Nyle revealed to Washington Life.

To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.

'ASL requires the use of facial expressions and body language expressions. With the rules of ASL immersed into my soul, it helps to bring out stories when I'm modeling for a photo, and makes for an interesting character when I'm acting.'

And, perhaps unsurprisingly, the fact that Nyle is Deaf certainly isn't the first thing that people notice about the budding model, who was contacted by the producers of America's Next Top Model after they saw him guest-starring in hit sitcom ‘Switched at Birth’.

'The show found me through my accounts on social media and models.com, which is where I showcase my work,' Nyle explained.

'Honestly, America's Next Top Model wasn’t something that I had ever really thought about doing before but when I spoke with casting, I thought, “why not!” The rest is history.'

While Nyle is unable to reveal how the show, which he has been busy filming for a number of weeks now, has been going, he hopes that his appearance in the series, no matter how far he ends up going, will help to inspire other Deaf people to pursue their dreams... An image of him sitting next to his daughter with his inking and her implant visible has since gone viral online, where it has been shared tens of thousands of times.

Speaking to the New Zealand Herald, Mr Campbell said he got the tattoo 'out of love' for his daughter, and to show her he could take a bit of pain on her behalf.

He told the paper that he has no other tattoos, and will now let his hair grow back to cover this one... Read More: dailymail.co.uk/news/Father-s-tattoo-tribute-six-year-old-daughter-two-hearing-implants-combat-profound-deafness-goes-viral
